・Category : VR ・Movie : https://youtu.be/bt464YZItuk ・WEB : https://newview.design/works/the-tower-of-babel/ ・APP : STYLY（VR headset - Meta Quest etc...） ・Work URL : https://gallery.styly.cc/scene/5702df5a-e2ce-11e9-b34d-4783bb2170d0 ・AWARD NEWVIEW AWARD 2019 Finalist　 ・Concept （この作品はSTYLY上にアップしたVR作品のムービーです。） 誰でも一度は耳にしたことがあるバベルの塔は旧約聖書の一節に記載されている。 バビロンの地域の人々が石の代わりにレンガを、漆喰の代わりにアスファルトを使っって天に届きそうな塔の建設を試みた。 だが、それを知った神からの怒りを買い、人々の言語がバラバラになり、塔の建設は中断され、人々はそれぞれ各地へ散っていった。 この物語は様々な解釈がなされており、神に逆らう高慢な人間の計画が最後はどの様になるかという教訓やレンガとアスファルトの記述から過度な科学技術信仰への戒めという解釈がある。 本作品では、昨今の地球環境の劇的な変化を憂いて、砂漠を舞台とした。 また、人間の上に7つの創造物がスタックしていき、あたかも人間がすべて制御、掌握しているかのように見せている。 （バベルの塔はメソポタミア（現イラク）のジッグラートという名の7階建ての塔だったという説を参照している。） 最後は地球まで手を出してしまうが、すり抜けてしまい、これまで積み上げてきたものまで崩れ落ちてしまう。 加熱した学技術やテクノロジーの裏では、人間は地球の上でしか健康に生きることができないという当たり前の心理を忘れてはいないだろうか。 Many magnificent creations have been produced by human's unceasing efforts and mankind's intellect. That still continues uninterrupted, from the stone tools used during the Old Stone Age up to the modern technology of today, and it will probably continue further. The story of the Tower of Babel is about people using the latest technology at the time to build a tower to reach the heavens, but by doing so they incurred the wrath of God and were subject to his divine punishment. Modern mankind has left behind their fear of nature, and have perhaps fallen into the feeling that they have seized the entire globe. If we look at the length of the history of the earth, we will see that that is only a short moment, and we must not forget that it is a trivial part of human history. The state of technology that surrounds us greatly changes, and the global environment becomes different to what we know of it. I wonder just how many people realize that they are partway through climbing the Tower of Babel.
