Cosmos was created at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre as a video work for paid streaming. Live performances were held only outside of Tokyo. From a romantic duo dancing in a garden of trees and flowers to a dance in a sterile hospital room, the work takes full advantage of the nature of video in directing the viewer's gaze (though what is seen is of course basically being performed on stage). YAMADA says that this work is partly a tribute to 2020, including the impact of the Covid pandemic and the illusory 2020 Tokyo Olympics/Paralympics. The ten-minute ensemble danced by all 13 members at the end is a particular highlight. WONO Satoru's music gradually fills the space with a brighter, lighter, more hopeful sound. "Cosmos" is another name for the universe. Like countless nebulae spreading across space, the dancers draw large and small vortices on stage as they accelerate with festive elation.
