(Japanese article) An interview that explores the journey and values of Eri, who majored in Spanish at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and is now researching nationalism at a postgraduate programme in Vienna. I recount my journey—from the setbacks I faced whilst studying in the US during my sixth form years, through my fateful encounter with the Spanish language, and on to the COVID-19 pandemic—which led me to resolve to ‘take control of my own life’ and eventually move to Austria. Through her numerous experiences abroad, I have let go of my former perfectionism and adopted a mindset of ‘not comparing myself to others, but accepting myself as I am’.
