5. 10 - 11, 2024 QCC Dance Concert 2024 Queensborough Performing Arts Center ー New York, USA ［Adjudication 選考］ ・ENCORE Concert Selection ACDA North East Conference 2024 ー New York, USA 2024年、ニューヨークで行われたACDA North-East ConferenceでENCOREコンサートに選ばれ、再演。 This piece explores how my “language” narrates who I am at the point of the performance by club/street dance forms with improvisational choreography. Dance is the language for movers, and my “language” is club/street dance forms. Club dance can be any genre, the essence of my identity is expressed by my club dance style, such as house, waacking, bebop, tap dance, hip hop, and other movements inspired by African diasporic forms, modern dance, and Japanese traditional/folk dance called bon-odori. Improvisation, so-called “freestyle,” demonstrates the spontaneity and authenticity of expression in club dance, where people move to the music the DJ offers at the moment. The whole piece is improvised to the song, “Track ID1”. The dancer surrenders themselves to the music, which knows them more than they know themselves, and finds an unexpected self in the interaction among the dancer, their movements, and the music. The process allows them to tell stories and embody the music. The only things decided in this piece are how I go to the center of the stage at the beginning and halfway through the piece, and how I dance off the stage at the end. The piece invites the audiences to the journey and the process of understanding my identity, and closes by opening up a space for anyone to speak about themselves as I do.
