Mid-air imaging technology enables CG characters to pop out of the real world, allowing viewers to share the same physical space with the characters. While various methods have been proposed for real-time manipulation of CG character movements, there is no interface for controlling the full-body movements of a mid-air CG character. Although techniques exist to control a CG character by capturing the operator's body movements, these methods often require significant space accommodating large spatial movements. Additionally, controlling via the puppet allows the operator to control the character in a small space; however, simultaneously controlling multiple body parts, such as the neck and both arms, is challenging. Therefore, we propose an integrated manipulation system that combines puppet motion capture and human body movement to control the movements of a mid-air CG character. Specifically, the system allows manipulation of the character's arm, neck, and leg movements associated with spatial movement. Arm and spatial movements are controlled via the puppet, whereas the neck movement is synchronized with that of the operator's neck. We confirmed that this integrated manipulation system enables the operator to express complex and diverse body movements, combining neck, arm, and spatial movements, while directly controlling 3D spatial movement.
